The Junior Fortnightly Club was formed on January 21, 1947, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, by members of the Fortnightly Club (which then became known as the Senior Fortnightly Club). It had 11 charter members and a maximum of 20 members at any one time. Meetings were held every two weeks in a different member's home. Dues were collected at each meeting. The Club was formed mainly for the purpose of study, as intellect was important to the Club. One or two members would present a talk or a paper at each meeting. In later years, each member was assigned a topic on a rotating basis to present on at the next meeting. Some of the topics were women, books and authors, household hints, science, education, entertainment, and local, national, and international news. The Club was involved in the community in various ways, including sponsoring students, participating in charitable works, hosting baby showers, and providing funeral lunches. Members also met as a lunch social club.

Dr. Arthur Kelly, a physician in Swift Current ca. 1910s to his death in 1936, was the first medical officer for the town of Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Chartered in 1921 as the 513th club of Kiwanis International and sponsored by the Moose Jaw Kiwanis Club, the 51 charter members of Swift Current took up the cause of serving their community and the children of the world. Early days saw help given to families for needs such as dental work, eyeglasses, cod liver oil, tonsil operations, and even graduation gowns, while today’s organization fills a much broader and varied mandate.

During the last 90 years the Kiwanis Club has helped to establish Kiwanis Park, the Kiwanis Ball Diamonds, and the Kiwanis Skate Park. And from 1924 until the 1970’s a Kiwanis Bathing Station was built and supervised on the creek at Elmwood Park. These are just a few of the accomplishments the club has achieved over the past 90 years.

Other projects the club has championed include: community talent shows; horticultural shows; an Air Cadet Band; a Junior Baseball League; working to bring 911 service to SW Saskatchewan; encouraging organ donations; constructing a kiosk on the Chinook Pathway; organizing the July 1 Parade for a number of years; completing numerous renovations at Crisis Services and Canadian Mental Health facilities, as well as assisting the Drug Task Force with it’s mandate.

The Kulture Klub was a local book club that started in 1946.

Aldeo Lalonde married Clara May Beeching in 1953 and farmed near Bjorkdale, Saskatchewan from 1954 to 1974 raising a family of four children.

Anthea Loran grew up in Hampshire, England, during the Second World War and she followed her sister Anne Szumigalski to Canada in 1955. A nurse by trade, she lived in Regina and Saskatoon before moving to Swift Current with her husband, Ralph where they raised six children.

William Norman Lunan grew up in the Swift Current area in the early 1900s. He was a resident of Heritage Tower Seniors Home later in life. He is buried at the Mount Pleasant Burial Park in Swift Current, SK
