Administrative history

Lucky Lake Pastoral Charge was formed as an aid-receiving United Church charge in 1925, part of Moose Jaw Presbytery (then Elrose Presbytery, in 1926) and containing preaching points at Greenbrier, Tullis and Lucky Lake. By 1932, Demaine had joined the charge and Tullis was no longer listed. Whitby was also added, around 1936 and Canaan, around 1940.

As of 1953, Lucky Lake Pastoral Charge consisted of Beechy, Lucky Lake, and Demaine. By 1962, Birsay was also added. In 1971, the charge name changed to Coteau Hills Pastoral Charge. With the reorganization of presbyteries, in 2000, the charge became part of Praire Pine Presbytery. In 2017, Beechy separated to form Beechy Pastoral Charge, while Birsay and Lucky Lake remained part of Coteau Hills Pastoral Charge.

Administrative history

Demaine Pastoral Charge was formed as an aid-receiving United Church charge in 1925, part of Moose Jaw Presbytery (then Elrose Presbytery, in 1926) and containing preaching points at Demaine, Bernard, Beechy, Jonesville and Sunkist. By 1932, Demaine had moved to be part of Lucky Lake Pastoral Charge and the remaining Beechy Pastoral Charge was listed with preaching points at Beechy, Coteau Plains, Crescent Valley and Sleepy Hollow. As of 1936, the charge consisted of Beechy, Collins, Coteau Plains, Jonesville, and Valient. Buffalo Basin was added by 1940, and Minnie Lake, by 1951.

By 1953, Beechy had joined Lucky Lake and Demaine, as part of Lucky Lake Pastoral Charge (renamed Coteau Hills Pastoral Charge in 1971). Beechy separated to re-form Beechy Pastoral Charge in 2017, leaving Birsay and Lucky Lake in Coteau Hills Pastoral Charge.

Custodial history

Original provenance for many of the records in the fonds is unclear. Initial items were transferred to the archives between 1925 and 1986. Additional records were received by Saskatchewan Conference archives around 1991.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of textual materials generated by Coteau Hills Pastoral Charge, the preceding Lucky Lake and Beechy Pastoral Charges, and the associated Dunblane Pastoral Charge (including Birsay), as well as the congregations that made up these charges – their church boards, committees and related bodies, local women’s units and other groups.

Contents include: minutes of official boards, Session, Stewards, congregational meetings; minutes and other records from Ladies Aid, W.A. and United Church Women (U.C.W.) groups; some financial records and reports; Historic Rolls; Communion Rolls and Registers; Home Mission Record Books from Beechy, Buffalo Basin, Dunblane, Jonesville and related areas; and registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials held at Beechy, Lucky Lake, Neasden, Sunkist, Bernard, Collins, Jonesville, Birsay, Dunblane, and related locations.
