Name of creator
Prairie Points Pastoral Charge was formed July 1, 1996, from the amalgamation of Creelman Pastoral Charge and Fillmore Pastoral Charge, which included Osage United Church. Osage closed December 2007.
Name of creator
Creelman Pastoral Charge was formed as a new United Church charge in 1925, part of Arcola Presbytery, with appointments at Creelman, Sequin and Prairie Lee. By 1951, only Creelman and Sequin were listed. Between 1954, and 1958, it amalgamated with Griffin to form Creelman-Griffin Pastoral Charge. As of 1969, the charge consisted of Creelman, Griffin and Froude. The Griffin preaching point officially closed April 30, 1995. On July 1, 1996, Creelman Pastoral Charge and Fillmore Pastoral Charge combined to form Prairie Points Pastoral Charge.
Name of creator
Griffin Pastoral Charge was formed as a new United Church charge in 1925, part of Arcola Presbytery, with appointments at Griffin, Innis and Froude. Additional preaching point White Rock was added between 1926 and 1932. By 1954, ministry was supplied by Creelman and sometime before 1958, it amalgamated with Creelman to form Creelman-Griffin Pastoral Charge. The Griffin United Church preaching point officially closed April 30, 1995.
Name of creator
Fillmore Pastoral Charge was formed as a new United Church charge in 1925, part of Arcola Presbytery, with appointments at Fillmore, Crieff and Huronville. By 1962, only Fillmore and Huronville (until the later 1960s) were listed in the charge. Osage was added around 1967 (previously in Tyvan-Osage Pastoral Charge), followed by Corning, ca.1969 (previously Corning Pastoral Charge). On July 1, 1996, Fillmore and Creelman Pastoral Charges combined to form Prairie Points Pastoral Charge.
Name of creator
Tyvan Pastoral Charge was formed as a new United Church charge in 1925, part of Arcola Presbytery, with appointments at Tyvan, Latham and Osage. By 1966, only Tyvan, Osage and Talmage were part of the charge and, around 1967, it appears to have closed, with Osage joining Fillmore Pastoral Charge. (Osage would later become part of Prairie Points Pastoral Charge, before the church itself closed, in 2007.)
Original provenance for many of the records in the fonds is unclear. Initial items were transferred to the archives between 1925 and 1986. Additional batches of records were received between ca.1988 and 2021.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of textual materials generated by several associated churches and their varying governing pastoral charges: Creelman, Griffin, Creelman-Griffin, Fillmore, Tyvan, Tyvan-Osage, Prairie Points, as well as predecessors and constituent churches – their boards, committees and related bodies, local women’s units and youth groups.
Contents include: minutes of church boards, councils, sessions, stewards, congregational, trustee meetings; meetings of local Ladies Aid Societies, Women’s Missionary Society (W.M.S.), Women’s Association (W.A.) and United Church Women (U.C.W.) groups; records from Sunday Schools, study groups, Young Peoples’ Society, and C.G.I.T.; correspondence and property files; financial records and annual reports; church histories and anniversary materials; historic rolls and communion rolls; Home Mission Record Books and registers of baptisms, marriages and burials held at Creelman, Sequin, Prairie Lea, Huntoon, Innis, White Rock, Mona, Griffin, Crieff, Froude, Huronville, Fillmore, Osage, Corning, Tyvan, Latham, Storthoaks, Talmage and related locations.
Immediate source of acquisition
Original order for many of these records is unclear. Items under A.381.XV.A and A.381.XV.B were arranged and listed as local church records sometime before 1990, with various others under XV.SA, and XV.SC added in batches, between 1992 and 2013. The most recent batches, under XV.SR were listed, described and added around 2016 and 2021. The fonds was created in 2022, based on historical relationships between the charges, records previously listed and any new accruals.
