Notice biographique

Albert E. Peacock was born in Northport, Nova Scotia on March 12, 1900. He attended elementary and high school in Northport and received his Bachelor of Science from Mount Allison University in 1921. That year he travelled west to the Marwin district in Saskatchewan to teach for 4 months. Peacock began a program at the University of Chicago to obtain his Master of Science; however, he decided to change to his career path to education. He received his Bachelor of Pedagogy (Bachelor of Education) from the College of Education in Toronto.

Peacock arrived in Moose Jaw in 1922 and worked briefly at Calder’s Creamery before accepting a teaching position at Ross Collegiate, where he taught biology and chemistry. In 1924, Peacock transferred to Central Collegiate. He married Jessie Johnstone, a fellow Moose Jaw teacher, in 1925. They had one son, Bill. In 1931, he transferred to the technical high school as a science teacher and as the vice-principal. In 1937, Peacock was appointed Superintendent of Schools and held this position and that of vice-principle until after WWII. He retired as Superintendent in 1966 after 44 years of service. That same year, the technical high school was renamed Albert E. Peacock Technical High School. In 1974, Peacock was awarded the Order of Canada for his work in Education.

Peacock was an active member of the Moose Jaw community. Throughout WWII, he arranged the War Emergency Training Program for the Royal Canadian Air Force employees. He was a member of the Masonic Order and past president of Moose Jaw Lodge #3, a member and past president of the Moose Jaw Rotary Club, a member of the board of directors of the Y.M.C.A and an active member St. Andrew’s Church, sitting on the Board of Trustees.

Peacock died February 16, 1983 in Moose Jaw.
