Arranged Newspaper Articles

This subseries consists of newspaper articles written by Leith Knight that were cut out of newspapers and adhered to backing paper. These differ further from the loose newspaper articles because the majority also adhere to the categorization system used for her drafts. The letters found in this subseries are: A, M, N, O, P, and Q. As with the drafts, there are also a number of articles which are not marked by a letter and a number.

Artifacts

This series contains artifacts of Leith Knight. Included are two patches: one commemorating the Moose Jaw Camporee of 1973, and a second commemorating the Moose Jaw CHAB Radio and television stations.

Assorted drafts

This subseries consists of draft documents not denoted by a letter and a number in the top right corner. Many documents are incomplete. The subject matter varies greatly and includes: Isaac Cowie, William Poulter, Norris Lake, early ailments and cures, the first Mayoral race, the expansion of the CPR, John Wellington, the dedication of the Moose Jaw Cemetery, Charles Brandon and Henry, St. Aiden Church Stained Glass, the Zion Church, the wooden paving blocks, Dr. Campbell Douglas, the interior of St. John’s Church, a tour of the Moose Jaw Cemetery, Donald Sinclair, and early hunters, the fight for the provincial capital, background on St. Columba’s Church, and St. John’s Church. Also included are assorted paragraphs, and an unknown draft.

Bird Watching

This series contains information cards used by Leith to track sightings of various birds. Also contained is a list of fellow bird watchers and their contact information.

Calendars

This series contains calendars used by Leith Knight for her schedule, appointment, and event keeping purposes.

Certificates and Awards

This series consists of certificates and awards given to Leith by the Moose Jaw Natural History Society, YWCA Moose Jaw Women of Distinction, and The City of Moose Jaw Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee. The certificates awarded are for her contributions to Nature Moose Jaw, community enhancement, her outstanding contribution to heritage education in Moose Jaw, and education through her book “All the Moose...all the Jaw,” and her history column in the Moose Jaw Times Herald.

Church

This series contains records of Leith Knight’s involvement in different churches in Moose Jaw and abroad. The Moose Jaw churches are the Minto United Church, Zion United Church, St. Andrew’s United Church, St. Barnabas Anglican Church, St. john’s Anglican Church, St. Aidan Anglican Church, and the TAC Mission. Christ Church Cathedral is in Victoria, British Columbia, and the Parish of St. Luke is in Chelmsford, England. The particular records are programs, hymns, newspaper articles, liturgy data sheets, histories, and newsletters. Also contained is a book compiled by Leith Knight of typed notes regarding St. John’s Church.

Correspondences

This series contains correspondences in the form of letters and cards sent to and from Leith Knight. Also included are some letters written to and from Leith’s Husband Cyril, as well as a letter pertaining to blue-green algae in Buffalo Pound Lake.

Drafts

This series contains draft documents written by Leith Knight for her history columns in the Times Herald newspaper. All histories pertain to Moose Jaw and area. The vast majority are marked by a letter and a number in the top right corner, denoting a method of categorization. The drafts that have been marked are divided into letters A, C, E, F, G, H, K, L M, N, O, and P, which constitute the majority of the subseries. The remaining draft documents are not marked and have been organized into the “Assorted Drafts” subseries. The subject matter of each draft and letter vary greatly.

The subject matter varies greatly and includes: the Temperance Colony Trail, the Moose Jaw - Red Deer Forks Cart-Trail, Ted and Harry Heath, Reverend Charles Hillyer, prairie fires, Mary Mercer and early homesteading, Buffalo Pound Lake, Dr. Thomas Roddick, Michael Oxarart, Maggie Buchanan, Professor Macoun, the Coventry Settlement, Charles Edwards, Camp Norris, Cowboys, and Bronc Horses.

This subseries consists of draft documents denoted by a “C” and a number in the top right corner. The subject matter varies greatly and includes: Father Lestanc, the Catholic Church, the Qu’Appelle - Moose Jaw Trail, Hector Sutherland, St. Columba’s Church, Eugene Bourgeau and John Palliser, Moose Jaw in 1890, the Rural Municipality of Marquis, Tom Sukanen, and the Moose Jaw - Regina Rivalry in 1882-1883.

This subseries consists of draft documents denoted by an “E” and a number in the top right corner. The subject matter varies greatly and includes: the Methodist Church, the proposed hydroelectric dam at Moose Jaw Creek, William Walsh and early fire protection, Medicine in the 1890s, bicycles, Lady Macdonald, Curling, the “Return Rebate Marriage Certificate”, the Winter of 1887, Buckoll and Kennedy, the Winter of 1906-1907, Moose Jaw’s first public celebration, early zoological discoveries, early tree planting, the Huron Church, and James Morrison.

This subseries consists of draft documents denoted by an “F” and a number in the top right corner. The subject matter varies and includes: early automobiles, the Edith, the Chinese United Church, and Moose Jaw bylaws.

Drafts - G

This subseries consists of draft documents denoted by a “G” and a number in the top right corner. The subject matter varies, yet has an emphasis on early Moose Jaw and women. It includes: the first labour strike, Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, Moose Jaw’s first bank robbery, Moose Jaw’s first royal visit, Mrs. Card, Moose Jaw’s first female settlers, early prairie fires, and the Pole Trail.

Drafts - H

This subseries consists of draft documents denoted by an “H” and a number in the top right corner. The subject matter varies and includes: early farming, Patrons of Industry, the opera house, the naming of Moose Jaw, and Annie Hoburg.
