The collection consists primarily of correspondence, photographs and memorabilia documenting Allison’s friendship and political association with John Diefenbaker – starting with Allison’s advice to Diefenbaker about his leadership convention in 1948. In addition to correspondence, there are a few detailed notes to file documenting conversations between Allison and Diefenbaker, including a 19-page document entitled “Notes on the Election of the Diefenbaker Government” (1957), which also covers the appointment of Diefenbaker’s first cabinet.

Fonds consists of the professional papers of journalist Garry Fairbairn, arranged in three series reflecting three spheres of activity. The first series contains correspondence, copy, clippings, and other records documenting his career as a reporter for the Canadian Press Organization (CP), 1962-1981. The second series pertains to Fairbairn's involvement in the Saskatchewan Journalists Association, 1973-1978. It contains executive minutes, clippings, membership lists, briefs, correspondence, incorporation, founding convention and annual meeting materials, financial information, and publications including issues of 'The Saskatchewan Journalist'. Administrative files, research materials, photographs, and drafts relating to Fairbairn's commissioned book:, 'From Prairie Roots: the Remarkable Story of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool', comprise the third series.

John Sawatsky fonds

Fonds consists of professional papers of Canadian investigative journalist John Sawatsky, 1977-1987. The bulk of the records concern four books written by Sawatsky. Relating to the first book, an expos of the private life of Soviet defector Igor Gouzenko, entitled 'Gouzenko: The Untold Story', are research files, manuscripts and drafts, interview transcripts, and sound recordings of conversations with Mrs. Gouzenko (1978-1984). The research files contain copies of clippings, court, and financial documents dating back to the 1940s. Pertaining to two books, 'Men in the Shadows: The RCMP Security Service' and 'For Services Rendered: Leslie James Bennett, and the RCMP Security Service'; the fonds includes research files, clippings, and galleys (1977-1982). Interview transcripts, manuscripts, proofs, and indexes relating to 'The Insiders: Government, Business and the Lobbyists' (1982-1987) are also present. In addition, correspondence and reports arising out of John Sawatsky's time at the University of Regina as Max Bell Professor of Journalism (1984-1985) and a small quantity of personal material are also included.

It documents their interests, careers, and family life predominantly two generations – the Ratcliffes and McConnells. The first accrual documents the interests, careers and family of John and Doreen McConnell and their daughter, Mary Ann. It includes materials related to McConnell’s work in communications, his work for the Canadian and Saskatchewan governments, together with materials relating to his interest in the environment and social and international development issues. It also includes materials relating to his wife, Doreen, who predeceased him. The second accrual adds the records of Doreen’s parents, the Ratcliffes, which includes documents related to their personal life and interests, Elma’s travel, James’ World War I service, and family life.
