University of Saskatchewan Photograph Collection

The Photograph Collection consists primarily of images documenting the growth and development of the University of Saskatchewan. Images of faculty, students, staff, alumni, buildings, equipment, and various events and activities constitute the majority of the collection.

A.F.L. Kenderdine fonds

This fonds contains biographical data, correspondence, lectures and addresses, exhibition catalogues, and sketches. Most of the material deals with Kenderdine's career as an artist, art teacher and founder of the Emma Lake Art School (now known as the Kenderdine Campus). There are a substantial number of photographs: of the Kenderdine family; Emma Lake; Kenderdine in his studio or instructing students; and scenic views; as well as several portraits of natives by E.N. Davis. Additionally, there are scrapbooks and miscellaneous collected items: medals and Boer War postcards.

Logan-Wickenden fonds

This collection of correspondence was predominantly written by Horace Wickenden (one note was written by Margaret Wickenden) to friends Ivan and Marjorie Logan. The letters reflect Wickenden’s views on current events, both global and national, with some emphasis on Canadian politics. In them, he also discusses books he has read; philosophy; reflects on teaching and education; and to some extent, relates daily activities and events in his life and that of his family. Very little discussion of art and painting are in the letters, although these, too, are occasional topics: particularly with regard to Robert Hurley, an artist Wickenden clearly admired.

Art and Advertising collection

This collection consists of exhibition catalogues, posters, invitations and promotional ephemera, primarily (but not exclusively) from Canadian art galleries. The catalogues predominantly feature the work of Canadian artists, with some European and American artists (and minimal representation from Asian artists). The collection provides interesting documentation of the development of Canadian art across the country, including regional focus and to some extent, the development of interest in Indigenous art. In addition, the collection includes some auction catalogues, as well as items relating to advertising; art and design used in industry promotion; and industrial design.

This collection contains research notes, diaries, and printed material dealing with entomology (in particular, the study of midges), bonsai, and the classification of birds. The photographic material includes subjects relating to Saunder's research; views from his extensive travels (including Egypt [1932]; Ceylon [1932]; Brazil [1923]; Hong Kong and the Far East [1932]; and North America, particularly Emma Lake [1939-1943].

This fonds contains images depicting many of the building projects that were done during Innes’ years working on campus. They are not limited to buildings, but include available building sites, roads and walks, landscaping and some graphics.
