General note

Mr. McPhail was born in Ontario but received his training at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1934, the Honourable Robert Weir, federal Minister of Agriculture, saw the need for an experimental farm to serve the north eastern portion of Saskatchewan, especially the Carrot River Valley. Mr. McPhail was its first Superintendent; he resigned in 1948.
