The Indian Head Rockets engaged young black American players in the early 1950s, as did other western Canadian towns (Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Regina, Delisle, Brandon, etc) to create a competitive and entertaining league.

Indian Head won the 1951 Saskatchewan Provincial Championship, as well as finishing at the top their league with 33 wins and 13 losses, including 4 tournament wins. Despite their success, the Rockets fell short to the Scepters in the league championship that year, despite having beat them in games earlier in the year.
