Knox-Metropolitan Pastoral Charge was formed after the Knox and Metropolitan United Church congregations amalgamated to form Knox-Metropolitan United Church, on the site of the (former) Metropolitan United Church, at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Lorne Street.

Administrative history

Regina Knox Pastoral Charge was formed as a new United Church charge in 1925, containing the preaching point Knox United Church, formerly Knox Presbyterian Church. The previous Presbyterian congregation dated back to around 1882. It built a church in 1885, at the corner of Scarth Street and 11th Avenue, and a later replacement in 1905.

In 1951, Knox United Church amalgamated with Metropolitan United Church, to become Knox-Metropolitan United Church (and Pastoral Charge), located on the site of the former Metropolitan United Church, at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Lorne Street.

In 1951, Knox United Church amalgamated with Metropolitan United Church, to become Knox-Metropolitan United Church (and Pastoral Charge), located on the site of the former Metropolitan United Church, at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Lorne Street.

Custodial history

Original provenance for many of the records in the fonds is unclear. Initial items were transferred to the archives between 1925 and 1986.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of textual materials generated by Knox-Metropolitan Pastoral Charge, Knox Pastoral Charge, Metropolitan Pastoral Charge and constituent churches – their boards, committees and related bodies, local women’s units and other groups.

Contents include: minutes of official church board; meetings of a local United Church Women (U.C.W.) group; annual reports; membership and communion rolls; and registers of baptisms, marriages and burials held at Knox, Metropolitan and the unified Knox-Metropolitan churches. There is also a file with reports and correspondence relating to the Regina Indian Industrial School.

Original order for many of these records is unclear. Items under A.381.XV.A and A.381.XV.B were arranged and listed as local church records sometime before 1990. The fonds was created in 2021, to include records previously listed and any new accruals.
