This series contains correspondence and briefs pertaining to Dr. Fowke's work as a member of the commission's research staff.

Fonds arranged in two series: I. The Sword of St. Paul research materials and II. Alexis André, OMI research materials. I. The Sword of St. Paul research materials. - 1977-1983. - .58 m textual records. - 64 slides. - 6 audiotapes. Textual material consists of correspondence; financial records regarding the preparation of the book; research materials on the history of the diocese, the parishes, the religious orders of women and men and the Catholic organizations; notes, drafts and clippings; bibliography, final copy of manuscript, correspondence following publication. The research materials include a number photocopies made from microfilm editions of local newspapers (The Star-Phoenix and The Prairie Messenger). Included in some files are booklets and pamphlets on the history of some of the parishes and religious orders; these materials will be noted in the file list and moved to the pamphlet collection of the Anglin Collection of Canadian Catholic Church History, Shannon Library, St. Thomas More College. Photographs are color slides of parish churches in the Diocese of Saskatoon, photographed by the author 1978-1979. Audiotapes are interviews conducted by the author 1978-1981. II. Alexis André OMI research materials. - 1983-1988. - 1 file textual materials. - 1 photograph. Series consists of correspondence, photocopied information, notes and drafts and the final version of the article. This fonds consists of materials used, created, and accumulated by the Westlund and McAusland families. The majority of the material consists of financial records related to the farming operations of Arthur Westlund and Clarance McAusland near Brownlee and Melfort, Saskatchewan respectively. Although broadly speaking, the story of agriculture in Saskatchewan is well known – cyclical environmental factors, changes in product prices and markets – this fonds provides evidence of the impact of those changes on the lives of a single family, over decades. How that family interacted within the local community is also revealed in terms of how and where they spent their income. The source material, in farm account books, vendor receipts, property tax assessments, banking and investment records, income tax returns, crop insurance documentation, and other materials generated from the farming operations, provides direct evidence of farm and community in the lives of one farm family over generations. In addition to the farming records, there is a small amount of correspondence, family memorabilia, ephemera, and artifacts. The fonds includes some material related to the Saskatchewan Liberal Party as the McAuslands were members of the party for a number of years. The fonds also includes records related to the operation of the Royal Winter Snow Plow Club, of which Clarance McAusland was a member. There is also a small collection of publications which are largely related to agriculture.

Four motion picture frames of a male runner's stride are correlated with EMG graphs of the activity of two of his thigh muscles as indicated by the numbers.

Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Bruce R. Brandell, Department of Anatomy, studied the activity of muscles in the thigh during walking, trotting, and sprinting. The study provided new insights into the training of athletes and into the treatment of walking disabilities.

Extinction dates of the Pleistocene mammals in North America. More than half of these 16 mammals seem to have died out between 10,000 and 8,000 years ago. (McGowan and Hester, 1962, p. 196).

This fonds contains an initial section of articles and reviews written by J.M Hayden. The remainder is correspondence, notes, drafts, and research material relating to his Doctoral thesis, "The Estates General of 1614" and his four published books: "France and the Estates General of 1614", "The Manning of the British Navy During the Seven Years War" [written by Stephen Gradish and edited by Hayden], "So Much To Do, So Little Time: The Writings of Hilda Neatby" and "Seeking A Balance: The University of Saskatchewan 1907-1982." The latter two contain the most extensive material, and are particularly relevant to the study of the University of Saskatchewan's history.
