Name of creator

(ca.1943–)

Administrative history

Swift Current Pastoral Charge was formed after the union of Knox United Church and Metropolitan United Church, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, in 1943. Prior to 1925, Knox had been a Presbyterian field and Metropolitan a Methodist field. After the founding of Grace United Church nearby, the earlier Swift Current church was renamed (by popular vote) to become First United Church, ca.1958. Pastoral charges similarly adopted the new names of these churches. On February 14, 1987, Rush Lake – Burnam – Neidpath Pastoral Charge (Cypress Hills Presbytery) was amalgamated into Swift Current First Pastoral Charge.

Administrative history

Waldeck Pastoral Charge was formed as a United Church Mission Field in 1925, part of Swift Current Presbytery. In 1926, it was changed to an aid-receiving Pastoral Charge, with additional appointments at Rush Lake and Cutbank. Around 1932, the name had changed to Waldeck-Herbert Pastoral Charge but it returned to Waldeck by 1936, maintaining points at Waldeck, Herbert and Rush Lake. Around 1970, congregations from Neidpath and Burnham (formerly Neidpath Pastoral Charge) joined Waldeck and Rush Lake, under the new name Rush Lake - Burnham - Neidpath Pastoral Charge. On February 14, 1987, the charge amalgamated into Swift Current First Pastoral Charge.

Custodial history

Original provenance for many of the records in the fonds is unclear. Initial items were transferred to the archives between 1925 and 1986, with further batches added around the 1990s, early 2000s and ca.2016-2022.

Arrangement

Original order for many of these records is unclear. Items under XV.A and XV.B. were arranged and listed as local church records sometime before 1990 and accruals (under XV.SA, XV.SC and XV.SR) were added in batches, around 1992, 1998, 2003-2006, 2013, 2018 and 2022. The fonds was created in 2023, to include records previously listed and any new accruals.
