Biographical history

The Uvajuq project began with oral history interviews with local Inuit elders regarding the legend of Mount Uvajuq (Mount Pelly), a mountain close to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. A series of original prints based on the legend were created Elsie Anaginak Klengenberg of Holman, Northwest Territories. A book and a documentary film based on the legend were produced.

Fonds consists of material documenting the Uvajuq project. Fonds includes fine art (prints, sketches,and proofs) created by Elsie Anaginak Klengenberg of Holman, Northwest Territories, to illustrate the legend of Uvajuq. Fonds includes exhibition cards and photographs from curated exhibitions of the art in the May Hakongak Cultural Centre, Cambridge Bay, and in Japan. Fonds includes the original oral history report based on interviews with local Inuit elders, the book "Uvajuq: the origin of death", the documentary film "Uvajuq: the origin of death", an archaeological survey prepared for the government of the Northwest Territories, and other textual material related to the creation of Uvajuq Territorial Park.
