Charles Frederick Rupert "Rupe" Wentz was born in Pasadena, Calif and came to Saskatoon with his family. He was married twice, to Maxine (d., 1975) and to Betty. He had two daughters, Jane (Graham) and Margaret (Ramson) and one son, Charles Frederick. He died in California in 1982.

Wentz joined the family firm, C.H. Wentz Lumber, in 1927. From 1925-1929, he served with the Royal Canadian Navy in Saskatoon. He re-joined in 1937 and saw active service in the Atlantic from 1939-1945, during the Second World War. He was involved in many community activities, including the Kinsmen and K-40, Rotary, ACT, Riverside Country Club, the Saskatoon Club, the Masons, the Board of Trade (he was President of the Young Men's Board of Trade in 1932), the Royal Canadian Naval Benevolent Association, as well as various professional groups.
