Boyd, Charles

Charles H. Boyd was born in 1871 and lived in Sarnia, Ontario. His wife, Eva Boyd, was born in 1878. Charles Boyd started a company that manufactured a wheat product known as “Boyd’s Buoyant Breakfast” using rolled wheat instead of cracked wheat. They moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and had a daughter, Helen.

Charles died in 1955, and Eva died in 1963.

Horn, Mary E.

Mary E. Horn (nee Gordon) originally came from Peterborough, Ontario. In 1912 she purchased a plot of land in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, numbered lot 6 block 49. She eventually settled in Regina, Saskatchewan in either 1915 or 1916, and married John Horn in either 1920 or 1921.

Wild, George

George Kitchener Wild was born August 19, 1914 in Middlesbrough, England. He was a WWII war veteran who served with the Duke of Wellington’s Light Infantry in India. He married Margaret Wild and had two children: Joyce and Michael. He died February 7, 2007 in Moose Jaw. George and Margaret are buried at the Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw.

Kaiser, Jerry

Jerry Kaiser was born in 1947 to parents Erlin Harry and Ardeth Irene Kaiser (neé Tysdal) and grew up in Baildon, Saskatchewan. He attended Baildon Public School, and later Riverview Collegiate in Moose Jaw. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1969 and a Bachelor of Social Work in 1975 from the University of Regina. He worked as director of the Western Development Museum.

Erlin Harry Kaiser was born an only child in Baildon on June 12, 1912 to parents Andrew John Kaiser (1886-1965) and Flossie Lillian Jane Smith (1886-1955). They had children Robert Erlin Kaiser (1940), Maurice Grant Kaiser (1942), and Jerry Baron Kaiser (1947).

Erlin married Ardeth Irene Tysdal. Ardeth’s parents were Oscar C. Tysdal (1891-1949) and Hazel G. Tysdal (1894–1966). Ardeth died of cancer in 1980. Erlin moved to Parksville, British Columbia and married Doreen Iverson (1918-2009) in 1982. Erlin died in 2001. Doreen died of cancer on March 4, 2009.

In 2004, Jerry Kaiser took the City of Moose Jaw to court for the pollution of his family’s land in Baildon.

Anna Charlotte Orr was born on October 21, 1887. She married Albert Norman Collard on August 4, 1909. Albert Norman Collard was born on September 23, 1882.

Anna Charlotte Orr died on May 6, 1910. Albert Norman Collard died on November 24, 1946.

Thatcher, Ross

Ross Thatcher was born on May 24, 1917, in Neville, Saskatchewan. During the 1920s, his father, Wilbert Thatcher, founded a hardware store in Moose Jaw. Thatcher helped out in the store while attending school. He graduated from high school at 15 and graduated from Queen’s University, with a Bachelor of Commerce, at 18. He began work at Canadian Packers in Toronto, however, in the late 1930s, his father became ill and Thatcher returned to Moose Jaw to run the family business.

Thatcher was actively involved with politics. In 1942, he was elected to the Moose Jaw City Council, with a specific emphasis on business reform, and in 1945 he was successful in winning the federal riding of Moose Jaw for the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. Although a member of the CCF, his emphasis on business caused friction within the party. Thatcher later ran as an independent and as a liberal. One of his more notable events as a politician was his debate with Tommy Douglas in Mossbank, Saskatchewan. Although the debate was considered a draw, the fact that he kept up with Douglas was considered a victory for the Liberal party. Thatcher died of a heart attack on July 22, 1971 in Regina.

Lett, Beatrice

Beatrice “Bea” Lett was born January 13, 1923 to Truman and Clara Lett. The family moved from a farm near Strongfield, Saskatchewan to Moose Jaw in 1929. She worked as a secretary and a library stenographer at A. E. Peacock Technical School from 1942-1977 and then at the Public School Board Education Centre. Ms. Lett served the Moose Jaw school board for over 44 years. She currently lives in Moose Jaw.

Cooper, Lorne

Lorne Cooper was born in North Battleford on August 25, 1936. He attended Notre Dame Elementary School. In 1955 he graduated with his high school standing from the Convent of the Child Jesus (COCJ). Shortly after graduation, the North Battleford News-Optimist hired him as their Sports Editor; he held that position from 1956 to 1961. Later he served as News Editor for the News-Optimist from 1961 to 1963. For the next 17 years, until 1980, he served as News Director for CJNB Radio. He rejoined the News-Optimist as Editor in April of 1980. Lorne has actively served the Battleford's community for many years. He was inducted into the North Battleford Sports Museum and Hall of Fame in October 1998. He was a recipient of the Rotary District 5360 and North Battleford Rotary Club "Integrity Award". He was the Chairman of the Host Committee for the Canadian Senior Baseball Championships in 1974. He also served on the city committee for the City's Golden Jubilee in 1963, the Canada's Centennial in 1967, and the Saskatchewan Homecoming in 1971. Lorne was married to Emily (nee Fedun), formerly of Richard, Saskatchewan. He and Emily have two daughters: Sandra (Wade) Sidor of Calgary, and Wendy (Rick) Rawlyk of Chestermere, Alberta. They have four sons: Lorne Jr. of Baljennie, Dale of North Battleford, Richard of North Battleford, and Kelly of Prince Albert. They have seven grandchildren. Lorne passed away on July 3rd, 2003. He was only 67 years old.

Glass, Frank

Frank Glass (1908 - 2002), a longtime employee of the Saskatchewan Department of Highways and previously a machinist electrician, was very active in the Rosetown community as a volunteer, particularly in museum and archives work. He was instrumental in forming a Museum Board in the mid-1970s, and headed a Museum Archives committee until 1997. He received the Rosetown "Distinguished Citizen" award for his twenty-three years of effort. Mr. Glass was involved in establishing the Rosetown Eagle microfilm library, as well as setting up a collection of pioneer and historically important photos and family histories. In 1997, the Rosetown Centennial Library Board took over the archives program, on the advice of Mr. Glass in the interest of long-term continuity. Active in many community organizations, as well as photography and carpentry, he is especially remembered for the enormous quantity of photographs of Rosetown and district, which he acquired. Mr. Glass continued to live in Rosetown until his passing in March, 2002.

Cooper, William W.

William Wesley Cooper is well known in the commercial circles of Swift Current as an upright and reliable business man, interested in everything conducive to the progress and improvement of the city and district. He has been prominent in the mercantile business since 1903 and since 1912 has conducted business under the name of The W. W. Cooper Company, Departmental Store. He was born in Victoria county, Ontario, on the 31st of August, l873, a son of John and Ellen (McNeely) Cooper.
William Wesley Cooper was educated in a public school in Victoria County, which afforded him his early education, and in due time he was graduated from high school at Medicine Hat. He located in Medicine Hat in April, 189O. In June, 1903, he came to Swift Current and engaged in the mercantile business under the name of Argue & Cooper. In 1912 he purchased his partner's interest and the firm name was changed to The W. W. Cooper Company, Departmental Store. The W. W. Cooper Company Departmental Store is one of the representative enterprises of its kind in the west, and Mr. Cooper has built up an extensive and ever-increasing patronage. He carries a complete and high-grade line of goods and employs efficient and courteous clerks. Aside from the store in Swift Current, he operates branch stores in Cabri and Vanguard. He is managing director of the Ben Allan Portland Cement Company, Limited, at Owen Sound, Ontario, and is proprietor of the Swift Current Co-operative Agencies. His interests are wide and varied and the story of his career is the story of well earned success, which is the natural resuIt of hard work and ability.
Fraternally Mr. Cooper is identified with the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and he has attained the Mystic Shrine. He is likewise affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythias. He was the first president of the Swift Current Rotary Club and an active member of the local Board of Trade. He is a member of the executive committee of the Old Timers Association and is Boy Scouts Commissioner of the Swift Current District. For recreation Mr. Cooper turns to the great outdoors and he is fond of fishing, golf, motoring and shooting. His religious faith is manifest in his attendance at the Methodist church. Since attaining his majority Mr. Cooper has been a stanch supporter of the Liberal party and he is active in any movement for the progress and improvement of his city.
