The Saskatchewan Department of Telephones was established by the provincial government in 1908. In 1947, it was reorganized as Saskatchewan Government Telephones (SGT), a Crown Corporation.

Phil Flude grew up and attended school in Indian Head. He worked for the Indian Head News and became its owner and editor in 1946. He served overseas in WWII, returning with the rank of captain (see Indian Head History Book pp 377-378).

Colonel John Gardam came to Canada in 1946 and served in the Canadian Army Reserves, Lord Strathcona's Horse, Fort Garry Horse and Royal Canadian Dragoons. He retired from the military in 1984.
