Bio/Historical Note: Frances Jean Hyland was born in 1927 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She was raised by her mother's family in Ogema, Saskatchewan. Her mother put herself through teacher's college to support her daughter's acting career. Hyland graduated in 1948 from the University of Saskatchewan with a BA in English. She earned a scholarship to and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After graduation Hyland made her professional debut in London in 1950, as Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire. In 1954 she returned to Canada to perform as Isabella in the Stratford Festival production of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure. She became a regular at the festival, performing in ten seasons. Her roles there included Isabella (in Measure for Measure), Portia (in The Merchant of Venice), Olivia (in Twelfth Night), Perdita (in The Winter's Tale), Desdemona (in Othello) and Ophelia in (in Hamlet). Hyland directed the Stratford Festival's 1979 production of Othello. She also performed with the Shaw Festival and on Broadway (opposite Tony Perkins in Look Homeward, Angel). On television Hyland co-starred on The Albertans and played Nanny Louisa on Road to Avonlea. Hyland was considered a champion of Canadian actors' campaign for higher status and pay. In 1970 Hyland was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 1994, Hyland received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award, Canada's highest honour in the performing arts, for her lifetime contribution to Canadian theatre. Frances Hyland died of respiratory failure following surgery in 2004.

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used by Margaret (Fiji) Robinson in her career as a vocalist and performer in the musical revues The Quinlan Sisters (comprised of Robinson, Peter McGehee and Wendy Coad) between 1981 and 1984, and The Fabulous Sirs (Robinson and McGehee) between 1987 and 1990 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Toronto, Ontario.
The second accrual fonds consists of records pertaining to the maternal and paternal genealogy of Margaret (Fiji) Robinson; the Stuart and Robinson families, as well as material relating to Fiji’s career.
It also includes records created, accumulated and used by Robinson between 1990 and 2007 in the development of a book proposal and subsequent film proposal on her career as a performance artist working with writer/director Peter McGehee. Research and notes for the online GLBTQ On-Line Encyclopedia entry for McGehee's life partner, human rights activist Douglas Wilson, are also included.
It also includes records created, accumulated and used by Robinson in 2008 and 2009 in the course of producing Painted on the Spot: On the Road with Ernie Luthi, a documentary about Ernest Luthi (1906-1983), an artist from Punnichy, Saskatchewan.
The types of records included are research notes, drafts of written works, clippings, programmes, posters, song lyrics, music scores, photographs, budgets, grant applications, curricula vitae, drawings, photocopies of correspondence to Ernest Luthi, a CD-ROM and an audio cassette recording of The Fabulous Sirs in concert at the 1988 Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival.
Robinson, Fiji Champagne
This fonds contains personal and research files on various topics, including a study of the Clwydian Range in North Wales, petrology, mineralogy, soil composition, oil and gas, sodium sulphate and soil mapping. In addition, there are a considerable number of area studies for Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and specifically the Lloydminister area, as well as 75 research reports done for private companies. There are also articles on poetry and the theatre - two of Professor Edmunds's personal interests.
