After a switch in policy last year, when fraternal delegates were feted at a luncheon but did not speak, STF reverted to the policy of inviting delegates to address Council... S. L. The Saskatchewan Bulletin, May 5, 1972, p. 4 "Senator Sid Buckwold, former mayor of Saskatoon, said educators must move between two extremes; the radical changes in education encouraged by people like Laurier LaPierre and reactionary resistance to change. Speaking to teachers and trustees at the conference in Yorkton, Senator Buckwold said the curriculum should be flexible enough to meet the needs of all the children, but it must not omit the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic. The curriculum must be changed but not abandoned."

Explaining the new course to a workshop of the Saskatchewan Business Teachers Association in Regina, Eleanor Bujea, assistant professor in the USRC College of Education, noted that most other provinces favored Pitman shorthand and Saskatchewan students would be immobilized if they didn't learn it as well as the system officially recognized by text book handouts."

SASKATCHEWAN DIAMOND JUBILEE AND CANADA CENTENNIAL CORPORATION DIRECTOR: Mrs. Mary Ellen Burgess of Regina has been appointed Project Director for the Centennial Youth Travel Program which begins this summer. Sponsored by the National Centennial Commission, the program is co-ordinated by the Provincial Departments of Education. In Saskatchewan, the Diamond Jubilee and Canada Centennial Corporation is also assisting in the project. This year Saskatchewan will host 130 students from other parts of Canada and will send a similar number to Eastern Canada.
