Sundial at University of Saskatchewan

Photographs show Gordon Patterson, a retired departmental assistant at the Physics department, standing beside the sundial at the observatory at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Mr. Patterson was hired to restore the sundial, October 2, 1984. [Published October 3, 1984]

University of Saskatchewan Field Husbandry Building

Photographs show the university campus including an oblique view of the Field Husbandry Building in the background and the view across the Bowl to Saskatchewan Hall, the Memorial Union Building and Qu'Appelle Hall, taken from the roof of the Physics Building.

Dr. A.B. Henschel

File contains photographs of Dr. Ann (Bardeen) Henschel, physician and anaesthesia specialist at City Hospital and the Sanatorium, as well as the University Hospital. Dr. Henschel's brother, John Bardeen, had just won a Nobel Prize in Physics.

Experiments at University of Saskatchewan for International Geophysical Year

Photographs show scientific equipment at the University of Saskatchewan Physics Department being readied for experiments to be carried out as part of "International Geophyiscal Year", celebrated in 1958, including magnetometers to measure the magnetic field, radar and measurement equipment for studying the aurora borealis and an "all sky camera" for photographing aurora. Identified are Dave Glass, Dr. D.M. Hunten and Dr. A. Vallance Jones.

New School Opens in Maymont SK

File contains photographs of the new school that recently opened in Maymont SK. Included is an image of the exterior of the school, an image of Rev. Frank Myers speaking at the school's opening ceremony, an image of grade 11 and 12 students at work in the chemistry/physics lab, and an image of teacher Miss V. Dimmick supervising a grade 2 reading class. There is also an image of the teachers and staff at the school, pictured is Miss V. Dimmick, Mr. N. Armstrong (principal), Miss A.G. Page, Miss M. McNabb, Mr. R. Thomas, and Mrs. Ida Gillatt.
