Peter N. Nikiforuk

Peter N. Nikiforuk, Dean of Engineering, seated at a computer.

Bio/Historical Note: Peter N. Nikiforuk born in St. Paul, Alberta on 11 February 1930. He received a scholarship to Queen's University and in 1952 graduated with a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics. In 1952 he received an Athlone Fellowship to Manchester University and completed his PhD in 1955. He was awarded a D.Sc. from Manchester University in 1970. Peter's career began as a systems engineer in the development of the missile head for the Avro Arrow. In 1960, he joined the Engineering faculty at the University of Saskatchewan and served as Dean of Engineering from 1973 until 1996. Nikiforuk died in Saskatoon on 19 July 2018.

Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Danielle Julie Carrier was a member of the Department of Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in 2005. Dr. Carrier is on the Project Steering Committee, Research Coordination Advisory Board, at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (2023).

Bio/Historical Note: Born and raised in Saskatchewan, V. Lynne Pearson received a BA from the University of Saskatchewan in 1966, and a Bachelor of Journalism degree from Carleton University in Ottawa a year later. In 1971 she completed an MA at the University of Alberta. Pearson was Dean of Commerce at the U of S from 1996-2006. In 2001 Pearson received the 2001 Lieutenant Governor’s medal for distinguished public service by the Regina Regional Group of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC). She held several local and national positions with IPAC, including chair of the Regina Regional Group.

Bio/historical note: Designed by Brown and Vallance, Montreal Architects, the College (later known as Administration) building was constructed between 1910-12 by Smith Bros. and Wilson general contractors. Originally a general purpose building, designed in the shape of a capital E, and built at a cost of $297,000.00, the corner stone was laid by Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Prime Minister of Canada, on 29 July 1910. The building was officially opened by Walter Scott, Premier of Saskatchewan on 1 May 1913.
