Dr. Lillian Dyck - In Office

Dr. Lillian Dyck in her office in the Neuropsychiatry Research Unit, Department of Psychiatry.

Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Lillian Eva Quan Dyck (b. 1945) earned a BA (Honours), an MSc in Biochemistry in 1968 and 1970 respectively, as well as a PhD in Biological Psychiatry in 1981, all from the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Dyck was a full professor in the Neuropsychiatry Research Unit, Department of Psychiatry and associate dean, College of Graduate Studies & Research. A member of the Cree Gordon First Nation in Saskatchewan, and a first generation Chinese Canadian, she is the first female First Nations senator and Canadian-born senator of Chinese descent. Dr. Dyck was appointed to the Senate on 24 March 2005. Dr. Dyck is chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples. Her priority areas are Aboriginals, Chinese Canadians, Women in Science, Engineering & Technology, Post-secondary education and the tragedy of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls (MMIWGS). Dr. Dyck speaks across Canada on these topics and others In 2019 she received a ‘Women of Distinction’ Award Lifetime Achievement Award from the Saskatoon YWCA. Dr. Dyck retired from the Canadian Senate in 2020.
