This fonds reflects Brock Silversides’ interests in historical and contemporary culture, with particular emphasis on the history of photography, music, and film. It contains research materials used for eight of his books, including both published and unpublished images taken from a variety of archives, as well as from Brock’s personal collection. His numerous articles represent an excellent resource on photographers and the history of photography, as do several of the public exhibitions which he curated. In addition, his collections of historical newspapers, film, posters -- particularly for local musicians, Canadian film and Canadian artists -- represent a useful collection for anyone interested in these aspects of Canadian culture and society.

Silversides, Brock

Regina General Hospital School of Nursing fonds

Fonds consists of records documenting the history and administration of the Regina General Hospital School of Nursing, and the experiences of nursing students. Fonds includes correspondence; handbooks and brochures; aims and objectives, hospital procedures, and professional code of ethics; student files; educational material; graduation exercises and invitations; and memorabilia from the closing of the School of Nursing. Fonds also includes historical essays; biographies of Elizabeth Chalmer Van Valkenburg, Lily Bristow and Ruby Simpson; yearbooks; newspaper clippings, including obituaries of alumna and staff. In addition, fonds contains photographs depicting the hospital and Nurses' Residence, graduation exercises, nursing students, patients, hospital staff, family and friends; and teaching slides. Lastly, fonds includes records of the Teaching Council of the Regina General Hospital School of Nursing, including minutes, correspondence, constitution and bylaws, reports, teaching rosters, policies and regulations; and records of the Glee Club including members lists, conductor's notes, music library inventory, concert programs, sheet music, song books, and musical scripts.

Allena Williams fonds

This seems to be a complete day- by-day account of Allena Williams's life between May 26, 1840 and October 11, 1843 (Vol. 6). She was a regular churchgoer and a Sunday-School teacher. The diary notes various accounts of sermons and a service at St. Paul's for S.P.G. There are also accounts of concerts in Hanover Square Rooms, where there was music by Rossini, Schubert, and others, and Beethoven's Sonata in D. Minor finally played by Sterndale Bennette.
Furthermore, she was a studious and industrious woman who always seemed to have either a book or a needle or a pen in her hand, or to be singing or playing.

T.Y. and Judith Rice Henderson Performing Arts Collection

Collection consists of programs from theatre productions, but also music and dance and some special events. The collection primarily documents the performing arts in Saskatoon and area - notably Persephone Theatre, Saskatoon Gateway Players and the Saskatoon Symphony - and includes representation from a number of independent theatre companies, some no longer in operation. Internationally, there is an extensive set of programs from the United Kingdom, most extensively from London, Cambridge, and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

This fonds details the activities surrounding the 90th anniversary of the University of Saskatchewan in 1997.

Institutional Note: This committee was formed to organize activities celebrating the 90th anniversary of the University of Saskatchewan in 1997. These activities included a one act play, and a cultural tour which featured local talents and visited Saskatoon, North Battleford, Prince Albert, and Humboldt. A night of music and dance was also on offer.

Moose Jaw Times Herald Photo Flashback collection

This collection consists of three scrapbooks of Moose Jaw Times Herald clippings. The clippings are all from the ‘Photo Flashback’ section and contain historical photographs of Moose Jaw and district. The scrapbooks are organized by themes: Sports clubs, music, etc; Main Street, parks, events, winters and floods of interest; and old buildings, firefighters and the C.P.R. It is unknown who compiled these scrapbooks. The ‘Photo Flashback’ section was published from 1988-1989.

Fleming Family fonds

This fonds contains the original musical scores and arrangements, and related teaching material, programs, posters and recital material from multiple generations of the Fleming family, primarily those by Arthur Evelyn Fleming (1864-1922), Robert James Berkeley Fleming (1921 – 1976), William Arthur Fleming (1933-2016), and Robert’s son Berkeley Fleming. Georgina Gunn Fleming, Robert’s wife Margaret Pound, Robert may have been the most well-known as a composer, pianist, organist, choirmaster and teacher; but William (“Bill”), a teacher-librarian who taught in Regina throughout his career, was also an acclaimed singer and choirmaster, and studied at the University of Saskatchewan under Murray Adaskin, and Frances James Adaskin. The fonds contains musical works by others in a variety of musical genres; as well as family correspondence, photographs, and memorabilia.
