Brock Silversides fonds

This fonds reflects Brock Silversides’ interests in historical and contemporary culture, with particular emphasis on the history of photography, music, and film. It contains research materials used for eight of his books, including both published and unpublished images taken from a variety of archives, as well as from Brock’s personal collection. His numerous articles represent an excellent resource on photographers and the history of photography, as do several of the public exhibitions which he curated. In addition, his collections of historical newspapers, film, posters -- particularly for local musicians, Canadian film and Canadian artists -- represent a useful collection for anyone interested in these aspects of Canadian culture and society.

This fonds documents the lives of the Copland, Hunter and Anderson families, notably their early years following Margaret and William Hunter's move to Canada and years in Saskatoon. It also includes a card collection maintained by her Barbara Anderson's daughter, Bertha; agricultural fair ribbons from Bertha’s husband, George; and University of Saskatchewan memorabilia from Bertha and George’s daughter, Thelma.

This fonds contains administrative files from the department of Biology, various grant applications, and material concerning Professor Naylor's involvement with the Genetics Group, the Saskatchewan Health Research Board (specifically concerning radiation), and the Royal Society. There are also several data books and statistical reports from Naylor's research with wild oats, Kochia scoparia, Setcreasea purpurea, and Aspergillus. In addition, there is a considerable amount of correspondence with colleagues M. Lakshmanan, M. Jast, S. Jana, B. Henderstein, E. Hutchinson, W. Newcomb, S.C. Price, G. Setterfield, M. Shaw, R. Tobin, J. Woodard, M. Black, and S. Achary. It also contains a copy of Naylor's thesis, "The Control of DNA Synthesis and Bud Inhibition through Plant Growth Substances," along with some of his published and unpublished manuscripts.
