This fonds relates to the lives of siblings or descendants of RHD Phillips and Tanyss (Bell) Phillips. Robert Howard Daniel (“Bob”) Phillips (1921-2006) was a journalist. He joined the staff of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool as a research analyst, and later became the editor and publisher of the Western Producer. He married Tanyss Bell in 1951. Tanyss (1926-2016) was an economist who worked in the research department of the Bank of Canada, with the Saskatchewan Royal Commission on Agriculture and Rural Life, as a lecturer at the University of Regina, and as a contract editor. Both were alumni of the University of Saskatchewan.
This fonds contains mainly textual material relating to the writing of Elizabeth Philips. Much of it is notes, rough drafts, and copies of poems and some prose work. There is also correspondence which relates to the business side of writing and getting published as well as some personal correspondence that relates to every day life and also on writing, as she corresponded with other writers.
The bulk of this fondsl deals with the career of Richard Rempel and post-career project, the biography of the University of Saskatchewan’s third President, W.P. Thompson. This fonds also contains materials relating to the Rempel family, to the academic careers of Jacob and Richard Rempel and to the University of Saskatchewan. In particular, it provides the most extensive source available to date relating to Richard Rempel and Charles Lightbody.
This fonds contains a variety of material relating to George’s interests and career; including drafts of his book on fountain pens; publications and ephemera concerning the Saskatoon Public Library’s history; and ephemera from cultural events in Saskatoon.
This fonds includes materials collected primarily as a result of Bob Cole’s student days at the University of Saskatchewan and STM. The University Publications are particularly useful as these items are not duplicated in the University Publication Collection.
The first accession (2011-053) contains a scrapbook, art catalogues and theatre playbill programs. The second accession (2016-147) is a record of Calder’s activities in three areas: personal life and career as student and faculty member, career as an internationally published author, and contributions to the Saskatchewan writing community.
This fonds contains materials relating to Steer’s education at the University of Saskatchewan and his career: including his research and publications; teaching material; and various presentations and addresses.
This fonds includes extensive correspondence with family and colleagues, as well as materials relating to Dr. Mitcham's career as an academic and an author. It also contains manuscript drafts, research notes, and related materials regarding her books "The Last Utopia," "Taku," "Island Keepers," "Grey Owl's Favorite Wilderness," and "Ivan Hicks," among others. The fonds also includes biographical material.
This collection primarily reflects Zepp’s interest in Inuit art and artists. It includes interviews with artists, images taken over the course of several years of the northern landscape, community and individuals. Importantly, Zepp and Varga spent time at fishing and hunting camps or in the homes of artists, and the resulting material reflects that friendship and intimate relationship. Material created or acquired during Zepp’s career as a curator is also evident, including a significant photo resource of Inuit art from major collections. The reference library is an uniquely complete set of articles and major works relating to Inuit art in Canada. Additionally, the collection includes material relating to a number of other artists, predominantly from Saskatchewan, whose work Zepp admired (in many instances, Zepp organized the first major exhibition of their work).
This fonds documents the interests, careers and family of John and Doreen McConnell and their daughter, Mary Ann. It includes materials related to McConnell’s work in communications, his work for the Canadian and Saskatchewan governments, together with materials relating to his interest in the environment and social and international development issues. It also includes materials relating to his wife, Doreen, who predeceased him. It has been organized into three sous-fonds, for records relating to Doreen; to John; and to their daughter Mary Ann.
This collection contains correspondence relating to Fenton’s professional and private life—including a great deal of correspondence with notable artists, art dealers, and galleries. The fonds also contains working and completed drafts of his writing, and research notes, clippings, and photocopies related thereto. Working files from his periods of directorship, and from his time running Terry Fenton Art Services are also present. News clippings and articles about Fenton are dispersed throughout. Art / travel journals are also included, as is an extensive collection of photographs and slides both documenting Fenton’s inventory of his own work, and also showing a range of art by others encountered over his career. A number of more personal photographs, slides and videos show artists at work and at play at a variety of workshops, and in a variety of settings. Digital and physical landscape photographs used for inspiration in Fenton’s painting are also present. A large portion of the collection is comprised of Fenton’s library, which includes publications from the Edmonton Art Gallery, the Mendel Art Gallery, and the Leighton Foundation, as well as more general collected texts, works by Fenton, and an extensive collection of exhibition catalogues.
This fonds contains material relating to theatre in Saskatchewan. In particular, productions from the University of Saskatchewan (Greystone Theatre) and Gateway Players are well represented, but there is also material from numerous other theatre groups, including The Actor’s Lab, New Theatre Co-op, and Saskatoon Community Players. This fonds contains programmes from various plays, concerts, and cultural events, together with numerous productions in which Chrisse Bornstein played a role, either as an actor or behind the scenes. This information has been included within the file descriptions.
