Baseball

Most of the items relate to the Indian Head Rockets of the Western Canadian Baseball League in the early 1950s - especially the young black American players/teams that drew huge crowds for several years at that time.

Nomination of Jimmy Robison to the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame

A 6-page submission, including a covering letter (undated) to the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame, nominating Jimmy Robison of Indian Head and summarizing his activities and accomplishments to support the nomination. The nomination cites his work as a builder and leader and an :organizer and promoter extraordinaire" Starting in 1947, Robison led the committee that organized the annual baseball tournament in Indian Head, labelled "Western Canada's Greatest Baseball Tournament" attracting up to 25.000 fans over the two days of the event.

First Global World Series 1955 - Promotional Booklet

Two copies of a 24-page magazine about the "First Global World Series" held in 1955 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. One is opened and one still sealed. The magazine contains an article about Jimmy E. Robison from Indian Head, then the Canadian Commissioner of Baseball . Canada was represented in the tournament by the Saskatoon Gems.

Western Canada Baseball League Schedule - 1953

A small (9 cm X 15 cm) 4-page green pamphlet listing all the games of the Western Canada Baseball League for 953. Johnny Esau of CKRM radio is pictured on the front. Glued on the inside covering much of the text are a newspaper photograph of Percy Trimont and a short article from Moose Jaw reporting a 14-game suspension and fine for Jim Williams, then the manager of the Regina Caps, - the previous year, he and his team were the Indian Head Rockets. The Indian Head Rockets do not appear in the schedule.

Contains photographs of Red Cameron, Tom Alston, Pee Wee Collins and Bobby Prescott. There is also a brochure about the "All American Girls Professional Baseball League (1943-1954) which included a list of names of 24 Saskatchewan players.
