Elvin, H. Lionel

Mr. H. Lionel Elvin, who has been appointed the new Chairman of the Commonwealth Education Liaison Committee in London, pictured in his office at the University of London Institute of Education where he has been Director since 1958. Mr. Elvin is President of the English New Education Fellowship and of the Council for Education in World Citizenship, as well as a member of the Commission set up by the Government of India to review education in that country. In 1959, he was a member of the British delegation to the first Commonwealth Education Conference in Oxford, where the concept of the Commonwealth Education Liaison Committee and Commonwealth Education Liaison Unit originated.
