This fonds contains material relating to Professor Kennedy's research and publications in the area of history of science (notably, on G.B. Airy, W. Brydone Jack, B.W. Currie, F.T. Davies and the Moon Hoax); astronomy (including information on comets and eclipses); as well as work he did on behalf of the Defence Research Medical Laboratories, the National Research Council, the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture and the NB Dep't of Health. There is also material relating to his career with the University of New Brunswick and the University of Saskatchewan, and information concerning his extensive collection of 16th - 19th century books on astronomy.

Specific topics include komatiities, plate tectonics, global warming, Third World debt, science education in Canada, Zimbabwe, Archaean geology, origin of life, and the environment.

Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Zoltan (Zoli) Hajnal was born in Cegled, Hungary, a small town 60 km from Budapest. He received his elementary and high school education in his homeland and was a fourth-year student at the University of Sopron in 1956 when the Hungary revolution broke out. After the revolution Dr. Hajnal left Hungary and made his way to Canada and Saskatchewan. He completed his post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained a BEng in Geophysics in 1961, and an MA in Geophysics in 1963, both at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Hajnal then worked as an interpretation geophysicist for Chevron Standard in Calgary from 1963-1965 but went back to academia to obtain his PhD in Seismology from the University of Manitoba in 1970. On completion of his PhD. Dr. Hajnal returned to the U of S as a faculty member. Dr. Hajnal has authored or co-authored some 90 papers, about half of which have pertain to research carried out on surficial sediments or lithospheric and mantle materials underlying Saskatchewan (2021).

Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Christine Mary Rutherford Fowler, known as Dr. Mary Fowler, was born in 1950. Her great-grandfather was Ernest Rutherford, the 'father of nuclear physics', and her grandfather, Rutherford's son-in-law, was the mathematical physicist Ralph H. Fowler. Mary Fowler studied mathematics at Girton College, Cambridge, graduating with a first class BA in 1972. That same year she joined Darwin College, Cambridge to undertake post-graduate studies in geophysics and completed her PhD in 1976. Her doctoral thesis was titled "Seismic Studies of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge". In 1977-1978 Dr. Fowler was a Royal Society European Fellow at ETH Zürich in Switzerland. She joined the University of Saskatchewan as a research associate in 1981. Dr. Fowler was assistant professor in 1982-1983, before returning to her research associate position. She remained associated with the university as an adjunct professor between 1991 and 2001. In 1992 Dr. Fowler joined Royal Holloway, University of London, as a lecturer; she was later promoted to senior lecturer. Between 2002-2008, she was head of the Department of Earth Sciences. Dr. Fowler was made professor of Geophysics in 2003, and in 2011 she was appointed dean of the Faculty of Science. In April 2012 Dr. Fowler was elected the sixth Master of Darwin College, Cambridge, in 2012, retiring in 2020.

Equivalent in scope to the Presidential or Vice-presidential records, this fonds specifically documents the administration of the Saskatoon campus from 1967-1974, and includes correspondence, reports, minutes, and memoranda. It also includes considerable documentation of the various administrative committees functioning during this period.
