Dr. Bill Howell - Portrait

Bio/Historical Note: Dr. William Edwin (Bill) Howell was born 23 March 1923 in Toronto. Dr. Howell served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II, first in the North Atlantic and later in the Mediterranean and Pacific. He earned his DVM from Ontario Agricultural Clinic. After obtaining his PhD at the University of Minnesota in 1952, he joined the Department of Animal Husbandry (later Animal Science), retiring in 1993. Bill Howell died 30 May 2009 in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia.

Bio/Historical Note: Following an early education in Saskatchewan schools and his Bachelor and Master of Education degrees from the University of Saskatchewan, Robert Basil (Bob) Howsam earned his Doctor of Education degree at the University of California, Berkeley. He taught for six years in elementary schools, served five years in the RCAF, lectured for a year in the College of Education, and served as principal of Brunskill Elementary School, the College of Education demonstration school, for 5 years. Prior to accepting the Deanship of the College of Education at the University of Houston Howsam was Chairman of the Department of Educational Administration and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, College of Education, at the University of Rochester. A mark of recognition of Howsam’s role as a leader in education is his membership in the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, serving on its Board of Directors, its Executive Committee, and its Bicentennial Committee. Howsam's many publications reflected his special interest in the administration of public education, performance-based teaching, and the evaluation of teaching and administration. The competency-based teacher education project in his College gained national recognition.

Bio/Historical Note: George Pavlovich Ignatieff (1913-1989) was a noted Russian-Canadian diplomat. His career spanned nearly five decades in World War II and the postwar period.

Bio/Historical Note: Mike Lamborn was a two-time CWUAA All-Star defensive back and was a starter over four years. He was drafted in the 6th round (48th overall) by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1978.

Bio/Historical Note: By 1957 Dr. Edward N. Larter was professor of Field Husbandry at the University of Saskatchewan. By 1974 he was professor of Plant Science at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Larter is Professor Emeritus, Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Manitoba (2021).
