Bio/Historical Note: General Henry Duncan Graham "Harry" Crerar CH, CB, DSO, CD, PC (1888 -1965) was a senior officer of the Canadian Army who became the country's leading field commander in World War II, where he commanded the First Canadian Army.

Better Farming Train - Crowd

Bio/Historical Note: The Better Farming Train served as an agricultural college on wheels. Sponsored by the Provincial Government and the Extension Department of the University of Saskatchewan, these trains were in common use during the summers from about 1914-1922. Consisting of lecture, exhibit, and demonstration cars, visitors were informed concerning agricultural products, equipment, and practices.

General Geoffrey F. Walsh - Portrait

Bio/Historical Note: Lieutenant-General Geoffrey Walsh, CBE, DSO, CD (1909-1999) was educated at St Catherine's Collegiate School. Walsh was commissioned into the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1930. He served in World War II with the Canadian Army Service Force and took part in the Spitsbergen Raid in 1941.In 1942 he transferred to the 1st Canadian Division and fought in Sicily and Italy. In 1944 he was made Commander Royal Engineers for 4th Canadian (Armoured) Division. After the war he was appointed Commander, Eastern Ontario Area, followed by Commander, 27th Brigade before his appointment as Director-General of Military Training. In 1955 he was appointed Quartermaster-General of the Canadian Army and in 1959 he became General Officer Commanding, Western Command. In 1961 he was made Chief of the General Staff and in 1964, became Vice Chief of the Defence Staff. Walsh died in Ottawa in 1999.

Bio/Historical Note: Hugh Carson.was born in Scotland and emigrated with his family to Drumheller, Alberta, in 1923. A building boom was underway in Saskatoon and Carson was hired as a bricklayer on the Bessborough Hotel. Eventually, during the Great Depression, "Hughie" joined the University of Saskatchewan in 1926 on a part-time basis as soccer coach and athletic trainer. In 1937 he joined the Physical Education Department as a full-time teacher, coach and trainer. During Carson’s 27 years he devoted countless hours to the athletic success of the Green and White, coaching countless soccer, fencing and boxing teams. Carson retired in 1953.

Bio/Historical Note: Donna Marie Kernaghan of Prince Albert, Arts '58, is a drama major in the College of Arts and Science and was head of the drama directorate in 1956-1957. She also sat on the Students' Representative Council.
