Western Producer Prairie Books fonds

Fonds consists of records created by Western Producer Prairie Books publishing company, (1954-1988). The records are arranged in fifteen series reflecting the functions of the organization: Administration; Author Files; Books; Calendars; Catalogues; Committees; Design Files; Editorial Files; Education Files; Festivals and Fairs; Financial Records; Manuscripts; Publicity and Promotion; Songbook; and Computer Print-outs. The records primarily cover the years in which Prairie Books operated as an independent department, 1975-1991. However, the majority of books published back to 1954 are found in the collection, by a wide variety of authors including such popular prairie writers as James Gray, John Charyk, Hugh Dempsey, Grant MacEwan, R.H. MacDonald, J.G. MacGregor and many more. The fonds is remarkably complete, containing annual reports, marketing materials, budgets, personnel records, grant files, contacts, photographs, production records, publications, financial statements, sales records, inventory reports, customer files, manuscripts, book ideas, meeting files, and other records documenting all aspects of the book publishing business. Of particular interest is the extensive correspondence with authors, publishers, federal and provincial government agencies, libraries, bookstores, book clubs, book sellers' organizations, suppliers, and publishers' associations. Notable among the latter is a series of files relating the Association of Canadian Publishers, 1976-1984.

Walter Stewart fonds

Fonds consists of professional papers of investigative journalist, Walter Stewart. The bulk of the material was generated by Stewart during the research, writing, and publication of his numerous books, articles, and newspaper columns, 1948-1993. Included are correspondence, outlines, contracts, extensive research materials, notes and notebooks, drafts, tearsheets, galleys, photos, publications, publicity materials and reviews. Also of note is a series of early 'Maclean's' magazine files (1953-1960) which were rescued by Stewart during one of his stints with the magazine. Much original and copied material from 'Maclean's' staff members other than Stewart is present in these files, and Stewart's own Maclean's files from a later period (1967-1982) are also contained in the fonds. Business correspondence (1967-1984), Stewart's correspondence as editor of 'Policy Options' magazine (1988-1992), and a small quantity of his personal correspondence (1982-1993) are also included.

W. C. Blight fonds

Fonds consists of professional papers of W.C. Blight, 1919-1990. Most prominent are the numerous reports and memoranda he wrote in his capacity as Registrar and Campus Secretary, covering a wide range of topics including the history of the University, admissions and transfers, university structure and organization, registration, student unrest, native students, examinations, marking and grading, academic programs, federated colleges, and many other administrative matters. Also included is Blight's 'Curriculum Vitae', as well as photographs of University staff, convocations, and events.

Vic Cicansky fonds

Fonds consists of papers, slides, and sculptural maquettes covering a number of commissions and art pieces which Vic Cicansky completed over a twenty year period, from 1969 to 1989. They include maquettes and sketches for "The Old Working Class," and the "New Working Class" commissions, as well as several smaller pieces. The wall sculpture entitled "The Garden Fence," now in the Canadian Broadcasting Building in Regina, is also featured in this collection. Slides take the researcher through the step-by-step processes employed by the artist in creating his sculptures. There is a working sketch, a sample title, a miniature wall, the photographs of the final sculpture as evidence of these processes. This fonds includes the papers of fellow artist, David Zack.

Ven Begamudré fonds

Fonds consists of personal, professional and literary papers created by Saskatchewan writer Ven Begamudre, 1931-1996. Included are manuscripts, drafts, notes, and correspondence relating to his major published books 'Van de Graaff Days', 'A Planet of Eccentrics', and 'Laterna Magika', as well as a family history project entitled 'Load Shedding'/'Extended Families'. The fonds also contains: drafts of numerous published, unpublished, and/or unfinished stories, poems, plays, TV scripts, and novels; correspondence with other writers and with publishers; publications by and about Begamudr and scholarly criticism of his work; video and audio tapes of interviews and readings; essays; talks; grant and application files; association and jury files; teaching and editing files; reading and conference files; an album containing photos relating to writing including shots of the Saskatchewan School of the Arts at Fort San; and family and personal photographs and memorabilia.

Fonds is composed of more than one accession. 89-5 consists of administrative correspondence, various class descriptions and papers from the Dept of Visual Arts. 91-27 consists of administrative papers from: the Dept of Drama, Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery, Division of Fine Arts, and the Regina Symphony Orchestra. 124 photographs and 5 architectural drawings are also included.

Tony Tascona fonds

Fonds consists of personal and professional papers of Manitoba artist, Tony Tascona. Included are catalogues, commission and project files, exhibition files, catalogues, invitations, and publicity material, news clippings, reference material and periodical articles, and audiovisual material relating to Tascona and his art. Of particular note is the series of business correspondence (1960-1994), the photos and slides of Tascona's work and events during his career, and a substantial collection of original art cards created by numerous contemporary artists (1952-1993), along with catalogues of other artists. The fonds also contain a small selection of Tascona's original art creations including drawings, a self-portrait, prints, T-shirts, and wedding invitations. Records relating to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts during Tascona's tenure as prairie region vice-president (1979-1981), to the Winnipeg Art Gallery when he served on its Board (1975-1976), and to his involvement with the Canadian Conference of the Arts (1990-1993) are also present. The professional records are supplemented with small quantities of personal and family financial records, legal documents, correspondence and photographs. The fonds also includes a photograph of Tascona's grade one class with teacher, Gabrielle Roy.
