Lord Thomas Brassey was the son of an English railway tycoon and he was a Lord of the Admiralty and became the Govenor of Victoria, Australia. His Canadian Cooperative Colonization Company purchased much of the Bell Farm and Qu'Applle Vally Farming Company and then re-sold the land to individual farmers.
