Administrative history

Assiniboia Pastoral Charge was formed as a new United Church charge in 1925, part of Assiniboia Presbytery, consisting of St. Paul's United Church, in Assiniboia. The appointment at Willows was added ca.1926. By 1946, the charge consisted of Assiniboia and Maxtone preaching points. In 1982, Viceroy re-opened and was added to Assiniboia Pastoral Charge, which had joined Moose Jaw Presbytery. As of 1984, St. Paul's (Assiniboia), Viceroy and Willow Bunch were listed as preaching points. Viceroy closed in 1985. Willow Bunch closed January 15, 2009.

Custodial history

Original provenance for many of the records in the fonds is unclear. Initial items were transferred to the archives between 1925 and 1986. Further batches of records were likely received between the 1990s and 2010s.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of textual materials generated by Assiniboia Pastoral Charge and its constituent congregations (including Willow Bunch) – the church boards, committees and related bodies, local women’s units and other groups.

Contents include: minutes of official boards and councils, congregational, committee, choir and Sunday School meetings; records of local Women’s Missionary Society (W.M.S.), Women’s Associations (W.A), and United Church Women (UC.W.), as well as men’s (A.O.T.S.) groups; correspondence; various financial records; communion and historic rolls; and a register of baptisms, marriages, and burials held at Assiniboia, Willow Bunch, Viceroy, Coronach and related locations.

Arrangement

Original order for many of these records is unclear. Items under XV.A and XV.B were arranged and listed as local church records sometime before 1990 and the accruals (under XV.SA, XV.SC and XV.SR) were listed and added around 1992, 1995, 1998, 2006 and 2018. The fonds was created in 2021, to include records previously listed and any new accruals.
