Phillips Family fonds

This fonds relates to the lives of siblings or descendants of RHD Phillips and Tanyss (Bell) Phillips. Robert Howard Daniel (“Bob”) Phillips (1921-2006) was a journalist. He joined the staff of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool as a research analyst, and later became the editor and publisher of the Western Producer. He married Tanyss Bell in 1951. Tanyss (1926-2016) was an economist who worked in the research department of the Bank of Canada, with the Saskatchewan Royal Commission on Agriculture and Rural Life, as a lecturer at the University of Regina, and as a contract editor. Both were alumni of the University of Saskatchewan.

This fonds consists primarily of materials relating to Dr. Hasell's research, writing, and teaching. It includes Dr. Gordon Snelgrove's teaching copy of "Art Through the Ages," Ukrainian embroidery samples originally collected by the Saskatoon Arts and Crafts Society, research papers, and 1,012 slides relating to art history and furniture design.

This fonds contains information concerning college, departmental and University administration, including files on both the Dept. of Audio-Visual Services and the College of Home Economics, as well as on various committees, including the Ad Hoc Committee on Sex, Alcoholism and Drugs, and the Faculty Association. There is also material on several professional associations, including the Canadian Association of Sport Sciences, the Sask. Physical Therapists Association, and the Canadian Federation of Biological Societies. Along with his personal correspondence and lecture notes, this fonds also contains Dr. Millar's research notes, involving his work on thermistors, nicotinic acid, vitamin K, and his correspondence with the National Research Council.

This fonds contains material created or collected by Dr. Williamson during his varied career as an anthropologist, civil servant, legislator, professor, and as a consultant for various provincial, national and international organizations and governments. Although primarily documenting Dr. Williamson's work for and with the Inuit of northern Canada, this fonds includes material relating to all circumpolar countries, other aboriginal groups in Canada, international affairs, and a very broad range of topics as they relate to the north, including art and culture, physical geography, sport, environment, botany, zoology, economics, defence, etc. It includes his personal and professional correspondence, research data, articles and scholarly writing, as well as a substantial collection of reference publications.

This fonds contains a number of files concerning feminism and the status of women, including the Federal Government Advisory Council and the Saskatchewan Action Committee on the Status of Women. There are also several subject files containing pamphlets on topics such as family planning, marriage contracts, rape, sex stereotyping, and women in education, politics, religion, and the labour force. There are files on women in Canadian universities, the Saskatoon Business and Professional Women's Association, International Women's Year, Florence Howe, Edith Rowles Simpson, and the Saskatchewan Conference on Children. The fonds contains various publications, including "Federal Services for Women," "Status of Women News," "Towards Equality for Women," "Continuum," "Upstream," and "Canadian Newsletter of Research on Women" (later known as "Resources for Feminist Research"). This fonds also contains a binder of publications and ephemera from Saskatchewan's Golden Jubilee (1955).

This fonds contains materials created or received by the offices of VP (Special Projects) and VP (Planning and Development), including materials relating to information technology, budget preparation in response to the funding cutbacks of the 1980s; initiatives in biotechnology, toxicology, and native studies; major program reviews including the Colleges of Medicine, Graduate Studies, and Home Economics; and the Issues and Options project. Additionally, this fonds contains some documentation relating to Holmlund's tenure as Acting President in 1989 including briefing notes for incoming president JWG Ivany; and to Holmlund's work on the boards of Ag-West Biotech, the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, etc. Publications and addresses from the whole of Holmlund's career are also included; these relate to his prior work in biomedical engineering, computing services, USG, etc. as well as to his senior administrative duties.

This fonds contains correspondence, including that between Dr. and Mrs. Oliver while he was serving overseas as a chaplain during World War I; his diary from travels in Europe between 1908-9; his sermons and prayers, articles, addresses; as well as newspaper clippings concerning: the war, Oliver's position as Moderator of the United Church, book reviews, and obituaries. In addition, there are several manuscripts, including the "Minutes of Council of Assiniboia," "The History of the North West Territories," "James Anderson Fonds," "Roman Economic Conditions to the Close of the Empire," and "The Canadian North West: Its Early Development and Legislative Records;" as well as offprints from the transactions of the Royal Society. The fonds also contains some photographs, miscellaneous souvenirs, and Dr. Oliver's diplomas.
