University of Saskatchewan Huskies Football Team - Mike Harrington - Portrait

Bio/Historical Note: Mike Harrington, a Huskies defensive back, was picked in the third round (20th overall) by the British Columbia Lions in the 1975 CFL draft. He was an offensive line coach with the Huskies and won the Vanier Cup in 1990, 1996 and 1998.

Bio/Historical Note: Timothy Molnar, a graduate of Thom Collegiate in Regina, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (BSc 1980; BEd 1981) in 1974. He was a member of the football team for five years, playing linebacker, defensive back and fullback. Molnar was selected to the WIFL all-star team in 1974 as a defensive back and in 1978 as a linebacker. He also competed on the Huskies wrestling team for five years, winning Canada West conference gold and CIAU silver. While a student, Molnar represented Canada at the Canada Winter Games, the Canadian Senior Championships and the Olympic trials. In 1978-1979 he was awarded the E. Kent Phillips Trophy as male athlete of the year at the U of S.

Bio/Historical Note: Robert G. Gibbons, a native of Balcarres, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (BSA 1979) in 1972. He played Huskies football from 1972 to 1976 and was named a conference all-star offensive lineman in the Western Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1974 and 1975. In wrestling, Gibbons won the CIAU heavyweight championship in 1977. Gibbons represented Canada at the World Cup in both 1976 and 1977. In 1978 he was named most outstanding wrestler at the Canadian championships after winning titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman categories. Later that year Gibbons won the gold medal in the super heavyweight class at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton. Gibbons was awarded the E. Kent Phillips Trophy in 1977 as male athlete of the year at the U of S.

Bio/Historical Note: Mike Lamborn was a two-time CWUAA All-Star defensive back and was a starter over four years. He was drafted in the 6th round (48th overall) by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1978.

Bio/Historical Note: Brian (B.T.) Towriss (b. 1956) played defensive tackle for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies from 1974-1977. Towriss became the Huskies’ head coach in 1984 after spending four seasons as assistant coach. Towriss became CIS football's winningest head coach in 2011, surpassing Larry Haylor with his 170th overall win. He resigned as head coach in December 2016 with a U Sports football record 196 wins and 315 games coached. Towriss also holds the record for most appearances as a head coach in the Vanier Cup with nine, having won three of those in 1990, 1996, 1998. He is a member of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, awarded in 2007. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2017 as a builder.
