Military

Series contains records relating to Emil George Berg's military experience during the First World War, including notification of his medal and his discharge certificate, as well as correspondence written to Ida Berg during the Second World War. Also includes a print of a photograph from Camp Hughes, Manitoba, in 1916 and a photograph of George mounted on a larger background that has the words "For King and Empire" and "United Empire" on it around the Union Jack and Canadian flag. A header, which has been cut off from its original place, includes his name, battalion, and enlistment place and date.

Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence written by Emil George Berg to his wife and son, sympathy letters to Ida Berg after her husband's death, and some correspondence written to George. Series contains three files: Correspondence from George, Sympathy letters, and Miscellaneous correspondence.

Correspondence from George

File contains correspondence from George to his wife Ida and to his son Ingval, all written in Norwegian. The item that has "Taken from a German prisoner" on the back was likely not written by George, and it is unknown how it arrived in his possession.

Sympathy letters

File includes letters of sympathy written to Ida Berg after the death of her husband on May 14, 1939. Letters are handwritten and typed. Also includes the death announcement and the funeral address of the late George Berg on May 17, 1939, likely delivered by Rev. E. S. Leaker.

Family history

Series consists of a photocopy of the handwritten family history of Christian and Julia Swanson. It was likely written by either Florence or Ida Swanson ca. or in 1986. A portion of it was originally by John William Swanson, Christian and Julia's eldest son, in 1958 but was likely recopied to add to this history.

Photographs and drawings

Series consists of 14 photographs and 4 drawings of members of the Swanson family. Most photographs are labelled either on the photograph or had a paper label with it in the original photo album. Drawings are of, presumably, Christian Swanson's parents and Julia (Johanneson) Swanson's parents. Also includes photographs of the paternal and maternal grandparents' homes in Tännäs, Sweden.
