Dr. Arlis McQuarrie - Portrait

Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Arlis McQuarrie joined the School of Physiotherapy at the University of Saskatchewan in [1981] as course instructor. She served on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and as president from 1995-1997. Membership on professional committees include the Saskatchewan Physiotherapy Association, the National Association for Clinical Education in Physiotherapy, and the Saskatchewan College of Physical Therapists. McQuarrie won many awards for innovative practice in teaching and two prestigious ‘Silver Quill’ Awards for most outstanding research publication with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in 1995 and again in 2000. McQuarrie retired in December 2018.

: The majority of this fonds is material related to the research for Waiser’s published works. It contains material relating to Waiser’s academic and writing career including instructional material; assessments and referential material; and research and publication activities. The 2023 accrual contains material relating to the significant public recognition of Waiser’s body of work, including his investiture into the Order of Canada; his Governor-General’s Award for Non-Fiction; the Governor-General’s History Award for Popular Media; the Saskatchewan Book Award for Non-Fiction; the Cheryl and Henry Kloppenburg Award for Literary Excellence; the JB Tyrrell Medal (Royal Society); and the Clio Prize Lifetime Achievement Award (Canadian Historical Association), among others. Much of the work included here was created following Waiser’s retirement from the University of Saskatchewan; and includes material relating to his interest in making history accessible to a wide audience.

Ora Devine – Hurley Scrapbook

This scrapbook belonged to Ora Devine [later Way-White]; it appears to have been created at the suggestion of Robert Hurley, and from material he sent – “Hurleyana,” as he called it. This included a number of photographs, usually identified by Hurley; some of his sketches and colour studies, and his later experimental work. The correspondence details his life in Victoria, BC, where he and his wife had retired; their increasing health issues; and his art.

This fonds contains many of the medals, awards and certificates earned by Andrusyshen throughout his lifetime; glimpses into his non-academic life, including family photographs, ephemera relating to his candidacy as an Independent candidate, portraits, travel documents, etc. Importantly, it contains the extensive background research, notes, and photocopies compiled by June Dutka for her book on Andrusyshen, The Grace of Passing.

This fonds consists of materials used, created, and accumulated by Don Cochrane relating to his academic career. It includes University of Saskatchewan administrative and course materials as well as files relating to the organization and operation of the Breaking the Silence Conference and the Certificate in Ecological Education (CERTEE) program. There are also a number of files detailing international study tours organized by Don Cochrane through the College of Education.

This fonds also includes a file of class notes which were created by Lorne Dignean, a student in the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan from 1950 to 1951. Mr. Dignean was a teacher for over 35 years at schools around Saskatoon. He taught for the most years at Clavet School, where he provided a scholarship in his family name in 1999. Lorne Dignean died in 2018.
