Lava flow which reached Lake Myvatn (in background) in 1729. A series of effusive fissure eruptions (Myvatn fires) started on January 11, 1725, and lasted 5 years. August 5, 1960.

Lava flow of 1729, Myvatn, to show broken up lava tunnels forming large blocks in this pahoehoe lava. When looking at the individual blocks the ropy character is evident, when viewing from a distance the surface of the flow is blocky. August 5, 1960.
