News clippings relating to early settlers in Saskatoon.

Clippings from the Saskatoon Phoenix describe experiences of early settlers as they arrived in Saskatoon, beginning in the 1880s. The time period covers from 1 April 1911 to 19 April 1921. Also included is an article taken from a book on the settlement of the West by F. Maclure Sclanders, Commissioner of the Saskatoon Board of Trade. Also included is a program of the "Dinner for the '83 Boys", the men who homesteaded the Saskatoon area. Held 3 October 1912; names of participants are written on the inside of the program.

The collection contains James Chatterton Clark's black and white photographs and a photocopy of one of his photographs. The original dates range from 1908 to 1962. Historically important images in the fonds include a photograph of thirty-six Melfort pioneers and a photograph of Mr. Babington (Melfort Moon Owner), Mr. and Mrs. Clemens (Melfort Post Office and Rothwell S.D #318 )Mr. Mouncy (Livery Stables), and Mr. Clark (first school teacher at Rothwell S.D #318 ). Other images include: the Melfort Band, the Melfort Collegiate, and a Y.M.C.C. Carnival.

List of early settlers of Indian Head

Handwritten list entitled "early settlers" in 1882-1883. The author is unknown but the stationery is that of Experimental Farm Superintendent Angus MacKay and a note in the bottom right-hand corner says [? possibly about 1910]. At the bottom of the list, there is a note saying "out of a total of 68 in district in 1882-1883, 30 are still residing in the district, 16 have left, 21 are dead"
