Biographical history

James Gallagher Knox was born in Huron County, Ontario in 1881. In 1902 he moved to Saskatchewan and farmed in the Tuxford district. James joined the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities in 1937. With them he was director, then vice-president, and president of the before leaving in 1944. He retired to Moose Jaw in 1946. In 1947 James was elected as an alderman and served for 6 years. In 1952 he was elected as a vice-president of the Urban Municipal Association, becoming president in 1953. James had also served on the board of Tuxford Rural Telephone Company from 1911 to 1931. He was also elected to the session of St. Andrew’s United Church in 1948.

James later became chairman of the Moose Jaw General Hospital. He also served as vice-president of the Saskatchewan Anti-Tuberculosis League. He was also a member of The Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance Association Board from 1930 to 1966. As member of the Saskatchewan River Development Association, he helped orchestrate the construction of the Diefenbaker Dam.

James married his first wife Mary Catherine Kerri in 1915. Mary died in 1915. He remarried on September 17, 1963 to Dorothy Gertrude Nickelson. He had an adopted daughter, Ruth Wiste, from his first marriage.

James Gallagher Knox died on August 26, 1977.
