Biographical history

Mona Holmlund earned her BA at St. Thomas More College, University of Saskatchewan; her MA at Reading University, and her PhD from Cambridge. She taught Art History at the University of Saskatchewan; and various courses on visual culture at Dalhousie University, where she holds appointments with the departments of History and Gender and Women’s Studies, and the Fountain School of Performing Arts; and is coordinator for the Certificate program in Art History and Visual Culture.

This fonds contains materials relating to the publication of Women Together : Portraits of Love, Commitment, and Life ( essays by Mona Holmlund, photographs by Cyndy Warwick, foreword by Candace Gingrich. Philadelphia, Pa.: Running Press, 1999. In University library: HQ75.5 .H655 1999). The book was based on interviews with couples throughout North America, including those involved at the time with changes to legislation regarding same-sex marriages, etc.

It has been organized into three series:

  1. Production: files relating to writing, editing, and publishing the book.
  2. Profiles – Textual: files may include handwritten notes, draft copies of essays, reference materials, cards or letters from the participants, etc.
  3. Profiles – Audio Tapes: taped interviews with participants (those in the book, as well as some couples whose stories were not included).
