Histoire administrative
In 1965 the Rotary Club of Moose Jaw set up a committee chaired by Gordon Ferguson to explore the needs of senior citizen housing and the possibility of constructing a unit. In November 1965 the Club unanimously backed a $100,000.00 proposal to construct a senior citizens housing project that would provide affordable housing for seniors. The rent on the units would cover the operating cost plus amortization of the loan. A non-profit company to administer the project was formed and incorporated from within the Rotary Club. Construction of the housing project began in the spring of 1967. Architect for the building was B.F. Schaeffer of Winnipeg. It opened for residents in November 1967. The official opening was held on June 22, 1968. Named Rotary Villa, the housing project consisted of eight single and four double units arranged in an H-shaped structure at 631 Fairford Street East. The final cost of the project was $120,000.00. In February 1993 the Rotary Club donated Rotary Villa to the Foundation for the Moose Jaw Union Hospital who manage and maintain Rotary Villa for the hospital. It is now a patient hostel, used by persons from outside Moose Jaw being treated or have family being treated at the hospital.
