Biographical history
Sheila Philip Cochrane Burnford, née Every, (11 May 1918 – 20 April 1984) was a Canadian novelist. Born in Scotland, she emigrated to Canada in 1951.She is best remembered for The Incredible Journey (1961), the first of a number of books she wrote for children. In 1970-71 she travelled with friend Susan Ross to Pond Inlet, Nunavut on Baffin Island. As a result Sheila wrote One Woman's Arctic (1972) about her two summers in Pond Inlet and Susan Ross provided some illustrations for the book.

Scope and content
The fonds consist of twelve (13) colour prints taken by Sheila Burnford. The images include views of Inuit camp life and travel on the sea ice in spring time (May - June).
