Bryan R. Clarke, honourary Doctor of Laws degree recipient, speaks from podium during Convocation held at Centennial Auditorium.

Bio/Historical Note: Born in Australia on 30 March 1922, Bryan Robert Clarke served as a bomber pilot with the Royal Australian Air Force. He earned his BA and Masters degrees from the University of Melbourne, his PhD from the University of Manchester. While enjoying a successful career in Special Education in Australia, Clarke was invited to establish a program for Education of the Deaf at UBC in 1968 and remained with the Faculty of Education until his retirement in 1987 as Department Head of Special Education and Educational Psychology. Clarke received an honourary Doctor of Laws degree in 1983 from the University of Saskatchewan. He died at Ladner, British Columbia, on 19 September 2008.
