General note
The author of the diary did not identify herself but often talks of "Doug" going to town, etc. On the inside back cover, the names Alfred E. James, Douglas, Gladys, Emma are written. The latter three are presumed to be Gladys Elliott and her mother Emma and her brother Douglas. Documentation for this is now enclosed with the journal - a printout of the 1906 Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta and a photo of a tombstone in the Indian Head Cemetery which reads: Elliott Emma E, 1875-1955; Gladys 1892-1970; Douglas 1900-1947
